Our Island in the Sun

Rain, Rain, Rain

Okay, with nothing better to do on a rainy Suva sunday i'll fill you in on our activities over the last couple of weeks.

Another island weekend away wouldn't be complete without another sunset. This island is called Nananu-i-ra. This is an island we came to in our holiday last year. Still a beautiful place although it only has a limited time left as the plans for a massive 5 star development on the island are well under way. The backpackers probably has about 2 years left before it is replaced by a massive time-share hotel where you can buy 3 weeks for US$250,000. At FJD$20 a night we got a bargain.

We attended the inaugural World Music Festival in Suva that was really our first taste of the local band scene. Te vaka and Black Rose were the standouts who played cruisy island music accompanied by a massive dance troup with the grass skirts etc......We also had the aged Boney M play. Well, that is to say, she was on stage and appeared to be singing, supported by 3 back-up singers while the CD played over the speakers. A few skips from the CD were typical of Fiji and summed up her performance. Dodgy.

The National Stadium. Where any event in Fiji (larger than a school fete) is held.
